I mentioned some upthread, the next closest I know of would be Setsucon in Altoona but it's pretty small. Farther out is Zenkai in Lancaster or crossing the Ohio border for like Matsuri and Colossal Prime and shit. God the northeast sucks.

I'm pretty tall and have very manly head structure, but my body structure is fucked up. My rib cage is unreasonably thin, flat and long. So I'm taking advantage of it and building a foam muscle suit to wear under the clothes. Since I'm so thin I can pad myself into any shape I want.

I think the Kon itself just isn’t very notable these days. I haven’t seen it advertised anywhere, and all the other local-ish cons seem to overshadow it with all the big names they bring in. I don’t recognize any of the guests for Naka-Kon at all. I don’t know anyone who still goes and when I told some people that are into anime and stuff about it, they had no idea there was a convention going on this weekend.

I know this sounds stupid but going to medieval fairs have had a lot of sock options and I have even used some for my lolita coords. I feel like these are redundant. Many years ago, Dreamhack's main draw was that it was a huge LAN party, but LAN parties haven't been the best way to play games online in over a decade at this point, plus with many games you can't even do genuine LAN's anymore in the sense of hooking up computers together and just set up game modes instead of true servers. So no actual LAN happens. But they have the PC freeplay and BYOC areas anyway that basically end up just being internet cafes. Especially in the BYOC area, I fail to see the point there aside from tradition. But there's something admirable about keeping a tradition going, so I guess just being able to emulate it means a lot to people

Esports is the current main draw. I watched some Counter Strike on the last day of the con, it was my first time watching competitive CS, I'd say it was pretty fun watching it with a live crowd.

It should be noted that I didn't attend on Friday, if I did then I would have likely ran out of things to do like you did.

Huh. I used to date a Texas cosplayer and she always acted like she took it super seriously, started getting more involved in organizingocal West Texas cons and then.... Just sort of fell off I guess. Even their insta doesn't show them doing any fresh cosplays in a while. Whole scene in Texas seems to be struggling.
