So i need to set up a watertight seal between a rotating shaft attached to a steel plate and a sleeve it fits into and i need to prevent water from getting through the sleeve. The water will be between freezing and boiling and the shaft will be rotating like... thousands of rpms.

I have no experience. Lawl.

I should've specified, these seals are what you'd expect to use in a hydraulic piston, where the shaft moves back and forth. You select your seal based on the pressure of the piston and the viscosity of the liquid inside.

In your case, with a rotating shaft, the wear will be much less so you can get away with just about any of the seals.

Google cup seals, and you'll find they have ratings of pressure and expected lifetime based on whether they're applied in pistons or on rotating shafts.

The sealability of your chosen seal is simply to give an idea of the type of pressure it can withstand, obviously you're not meant to simply accept that its going to leak, but I agree the wording on the image is a bit misleading.

>>2809706

They are not completely watertight tho. They allow a small amount t of water to pass and that is then drained and pumped out of the hull.

Source: any sailing license book that explains you how that shall be regulated to consider the water passage acceptable.

Can´t you just use a "simmer ring" or something similar? A "radial shaft seal"?
The german wiki on these is relatively extensive:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wellendichtring
The english one is a bit shorter:

These kinda things are standard for machines used in food processing and similar areas. I might have misunderstood you though, since I´m ESL.

The will have the everything for hands on laerning and you’ll get a neat cert. unfortunately the other anon was right, electricians are essentially knuckle draggers and solar trash is no exception. 99.99% of the time plc "programming" is you reuploading the routine the actual fucking programmer made. They're not gonna let some wire monkey code anything in their bajillion dollar factory. Way, way, WAY too expensive to buy your own parts for such a "practice board," as you call it.
In all my time as an electrician, I've never once had to program a PLC. Wire one, yes. Program, no.
I've had to install and configure a lot of motors and starters and VFDs, run tons of conduit and pull THHN through it, and hook up a lot of special machines.

I'm looking for a free drag and drop site builder program. A lot sites now like Wix want you to sign up for a service. I'm just looking for the software so I can easily build, get the code, and will self-host. Back in the day I used a WYSIWYG HTML editor and it worked like a charm. It gave me the code and then I uploaded the files to the server. Now everything I come across has a 3rd party putting their hands in it.
Is there something out there that's open-source like Audacity where I can download the free software, create something, and then do whatever the fuck I want with it?
I tried Wordpress and they want me to sign in and shit. I tried downloading a plug-in that let me design things locally. That wanted me to sign in and shit to Wordpress as well.
I just want something like Wix that works like Audacity where I don't need a damn account.

you mix up alot of stuff here and the others as well.
1 stage 2 stage is the way of applying it, 1K vs 2K is the chemistry behind it.

now how do cars get painted in the factory 2000-2020 they get a thick filler coat which hides imperfections in the steel and can be sanded really well. it also provides corosion protection against stone chips and scratches beause its so thick.
chemistry is water based 1K acrylic urethane (actually2K but heat activated) it needs to get oven baked.

you dont need this because your car is already painted and another coat of filler would make the whole paintjob to thick which causes other problems. i recomend scuffing the whole car with P800 and wiping it with silicone remover.

after imperfections are sanded from the filler it gets a "thin" water based acrilic color coat this is just for optics and provides no protection, this way you can save money on the more expensive colorfull paints. this coat gets lightly dried in a low temp oven and goes directly to the clear coat line.

clear coat is what actually makes car paint so strong its Solvent borne 2K Acrylic Urethane paint. Acrlic paint with Isocyanate hardener. once it hardens it resists even solvents it gets applied pretty thick and also contains many aditives like UV stabilizers. A car only painted in primer/filler would flake off after a few years in the sun.

t work in this industry

>> No.2810062

>>2810059
i say 2020 because noways there are trying to replace the filler with a pre coat which gets painted over while wet which saves you a huge oven and all the ppl sanding the primer.

nothing of this can be used for ops home project but i hope i didn't cause more confusion.

if i had to paint my car i would make sure to use a 2K paint which is recommended for cars.
2K tile paint or interior whatever could work but probably has not enough UV stabilizers, or gets to hard or to soft.

1K is trash for a car:
Solvent borne alkyd enamel will take months to dry but after a year or so it would become as scratch and solvent resistant as 2K
Water based acrylic will dry fast but never get really thought and is hard to get a even finish since it doesn't flow very well.

single stage will be less work 2 stage could look better if done correctly (spraying clear by hand is the supreme discipline for painters)
with a good manufacture both will probably last good.
UV sensitive pigments like red will probably fade faster without a thick clear coat on it. UV protection in the paint as opposed to completely covering it

>> No.2810189

>>2810059
> needs to get oven baked.
Can just use a heat gun on small areas?
I think I’ve seen other’s struggling with powder coating—I heard that’s the best finish though.

>> No.2810483

>>2810189
for repairs a infrared heater is used a heat gun would prob cause an uneven finish because of the air.

for full repairs a special low temp paint is used which dries at room temp or something like 80c a OEM body oven with its 160°C would melt all interior of a finished car.

but this is a whole other science just look how many different clear coats standox sells and how many hardeners and additives. which can be combined differently for different temperatures climates humidity.
a repair shop in Florida will need different additives than one in Alaska even if they have booths.

Pneumatic tools for home repair or much of anything beyond automotive work are mostly a waste of time unless you already own them (I do in abundance). Corded hand tools can be a great deal bought used so I do and score old pre-buyout Milwaukee etc for a song.

Every homeowner should own a 6" corded angle grinder. I haven't used my hack saws in years. 6" angle grinders take 6" thin kerf cutting discs (wear face shield and gloves) which is the main reason to choose that size, and also run 4-1/2" flap discs which are Allah's gift to mower sharpening.

I would get at least one cordless drill because they're insanely handy and beat dragging cord for a couple of holes. Trivial cost is trivial and convenience worth paying for. Drills of course drive screws.

I have a nice gasser Shindaiwa weed eater I never use because cordless are now good enough that landscapers often use them. Cordless are becoming disturbingly effective. I don't have a dog in the fight since my goal is owning all the tools in the universe.

Cordless chain saws are not for felling and firewood cutting but when a shoulder replacement put me out of the pull start game I went cordless and with some patience felled more and thicker trees than most homeowners normally do. Corded saws work but dragging cord in that use case is a bitch. Either way no more carb cleanings (I'm good at that) alone is worth owning at least one for quick small jobs.

BTW it pays to look up since many homeowners let trees overgrow then get assraped paying arborist bills. If it can fall on my house, vehicles or structures it gets removed.

Just going to add some considerations for this anon;
An electricity source would be wise, though for a few months you can do with charging your lifeline phone in a car or local business.
The two most important comforts in life are bathing and sleeping.

If you get a decent quality single mattress cot and some washing solution (tank fed, with a drain in the bottom of the shed and some drainpipe letting water run to a downward slope away from the structure might work, but get a chunky plug for the drain when you're finished to stop cold/heat seeping in).

Food stores can be kept in sterilite bins or similar, keep your food in packaging for a second layer.

I would go with sardines/tuna, canned veg and beans, powdered milk, and bread kept in a double bag (keep your first bag and wrap the bread swice twisting and then tying off both bags).

Buy books at the local second hand shops, or download a bunch of media and use some of your early savings to purchase a good quality battery box. I would look at the car starter types they sell in hardware stores.

If you make friendly with a local business owner and explain yourself after a few weeks they'll probably be fine with you charging it up at their shop for consistent business.

Get a large storage bin to keep spare blankets and a pillow, even if temps are average most of the year sometimes abnormal weather happens and sometimes you get sick and you need clean bedding to get back to sleep.

AC would be nigh impossible if I'm imagining the worst conditions but you could get a powerful fan at a local big box store.

I forgot about toilet, I'd say bucket to start with green bags, and then a portable camp toilet. keep the lid for the bucket and get a good sealing portable toilet when you do.

It just means outgoing/switched wires, to the load. A light switch also gets a live wire (phase, from breaker) and load wire (to lamp). In OPs case there is live + neutral on both sides.

I see. In my language there is no different term for the switched wire.

In electrical systems, you have sources that provide power and loads that consume it. They call them loads because they add a load to the system, and if you add too many, the system becomes overloaded.

The "load" wires are the wires connected to the load.

Shouldn't you be asking this on a message board/forum that speaks in your language then?

Might be more of an /out/ thing since they have /hgm/ but I like the spirit of the thread. I'm growing mini sweet peppers, strawberries, and thyme indoors. The thyme was leftovers from one of those hippie living herbs things you get at the supermarket, kek. Also a little lemon tree that seems to have stalled out on its growth, but hopefully it picks up again.

Oh yeah bud, just buy this here 6' zero turn. It will do the job in 2h
>it takes 10h to do a now
>put 750h on the mower
>break and repair 75% of the mower
>let go of my sunken cost fallacy, time to buy a tractor
>ask my farmfag friend wtf to do
Oh yeah bud, you really want to buy a size up tractor than the one you need
>buy a cat 2 utility tractor
>mfw I can't use any of the cheap implements I've been eyeing at fleet&farm, those are for Nippon mini tractors
>even of I put bushings on they look gay attached to the tractor
>spend another $6k on a mower
OK fine, the new mower fucks and the tractor is more fun than any sports car I ever tried. But I literally spent $60k to cut grass. Which is retarded, so don't do that.
Rented a drill and planted oats this season, might as well farm it if I have all this shit and the land.

so, you got to mow it 75 times? that's like a year and a half's worth of mows. (Assuming you're not some three-to-five-mows-a-week boomer.)

I am trying to replace the drain in my bathtub but the removal tool I bought is too small on one end and top big on the other.
What am I doing wrong? Is this some kind of "non-standard" drain hole?
I want to install a pop up drain because the mechanism that is currently installed is old and not working good.

they make drains with popups that have a smaller diameter and will screw straight into a standard drain, probably your best bet
otherwise you're gonna need to use a saw to cut out a small section so you can bend the rest of the drain and pull it out. which is completely doable but requires basic competence
i would use a hackzall, pliers, tedium. maybe a hammer and flathead
t. plumber thats done that a bunch

you can usually identify them because they have this seperate thread system to screw on to fit the actual drain. but if you don't use the brass part it threads into an already installed drain

I got a new roof 3 months ago and added some venting while they were at it. Half of the roof is now covered by solar panels.
As it’s getting warmer in SoCal, I’m keeping an eye on attic temps because I know it will make my AC ducting hotter and make AC work harder.
Im curious what is a temp that would alarm you to the point or let putting in a whole house fan or one those active roof fans.

they're supposed to automatically shut off when the fuel reaches a certain level but that doesn't work sometimes and you overfill the tank
