I have friends who own them, and I've had a week with one (Mars). I think they're fun. The issue is the price; they really should be around 100$ most, not higher. The premium is to induce a perception of status, so while I understand the motive, I wouldn't buy one myself at that price. As a watch, I'd give it a quick breakdown:
1) Fit - close to normal fit of a Speedy, so it looks great on most wrists. Very comfortable once you get it on a decent strap, as the watch is extremely lightweight.
2) Aesthetic - I love the different colours, and if I were to buy one, I'd go with the yellow sun one (because it's fun and the sunburst dial looks great in person). Further, each model seems to have 1 or two unique design elements that existed on previous speedmasters (including the reduced model), so that's cool.
3) Performance - I didn't have problems (like broken pushers or shit like that), and the chrono functioned reliably and enjoyable. As for time keeping, I didn't really check, but it's a quartz...what can one expect? On the model I had, the chrono-seconds hand lined up nicely with the indices at near 12, but I think it was a little off around 4. Again, not a deal-breaker, just a sign of what it is.

It's the kind of watch I'd have while going to a carnival or a picnic.

Have you handled them yet, Fren?

The next question I would ask if anyone said that to me would be, "why would I invest in you?" To put it another way, you must show that you can contribute to society in a meaningful and positive way in order for me to consider investing in you.

If you are suggesting a form of charity, then that might be a different story, and a potentially tragic one at that.

Good luck, I hope things continue to develop as you would desire.

Life is busy, but I shouldn't complain since everything that isn't ideal is predictably not ideal. For the good parts, they're awesome, so I'm thankful. As for the time...it's late, and we're in the cosmos traversing each second for the infinite.

Stay well, Credorchad. Enjoy the festival!

I've always been partial to the small-seconds with roman numerals; especially love the diamond-shaped bezel. The only thing that bothers me about it is that in person the hands look cheap. The left one is great, but the dial colour doesn't do it for me. Tough call, so I'd go with the right.

>>17907129
Likely the grail...I wear it more than any other watch, so in all probability...

>>17907135
It could be...but it was Rolex-chad who asked and responded. The only reason you don't know it's him is because he isn't putting pics of his OP every time.

>the real cope is the Frens we made along the way...

>>17907137
I agree from an aesthetic point of view; Rolex is hyper-conservative, and given that they recycle components so heavily along their 'different' lines means that they have the strength of a consistent design line but the flaw of not appealing to everyone. The way they make up for that is in their advertising. It's remarkable, if you sit down and study it for a while.

>>17907140
I don't think it's fallen that far. Frederique Constant, no matter what they do, will always be a 'bitch' brand, sadly...but not Omega yet.

>>17907141
I like projecting too. It's interesting that anytime I appear, BitterAnon and others come out to play too. Perhaps I'm just playing 4-D checkers with y'all...

>>17907183
I never read him hating on his Rolex; Rolex-chad loves it. He just wants another watch. Can't blame him for that...I've been thinking of looking at Rolex now that they have stock again at my local AD.

Surprisingly not in today's market. My 105.012-66, in original condition as mine is, would be around triple the Citizen 0100 on Chrono24. The value of old watches is dependent upon many different factors, but original condition (and how good that condition is) remains the key element that buyers look for.

>>17851590
And yet that could 'pull' their audience up. Consider what happened with the MoonSwatch. I'll say it again: if Bulova created a 1:1 replica, collectors would be interested and the customer who is normally willing to shell out 7k for a Moonwatch might want 'the alternative' for around the same price.

Remember that the only reason that the Bulova 'moon' watch even exists is because Bulova never got the contract to supply NASA, and there was a political push to equip the astronauts with all American gear. The company was encouraged by the government to keep on submitting their watches for consideration, but since both NASA and their astronauts were happy with the Speedy, there was no reason to reassess. There are many examples of later astronauts bringing samples (often paid for directly to the astronauts) from companies wanting their shit on the moon. There was even a scandal involving stamps...but that's another story.

>>17851600
You are as cool; you have an awesome Citizen right there, with an awesome handset to boot.

>>17851606
No, but like here, the subjects are cyclical and boring. There's nothing new to talk about or learn, and since I've stopped buying watches, the concerns on WUS don't interest me much. Are you still on there?

>>17851615
Post it. People make fun of my Speedy...so what's the worst that can happen?

I thought about it, actually. I've handled the Mission to Mars and Mission to Jupiter in-hand, and they're wonderful for what they are. I thought about getting the Sun just because of the sunburst dial....but honestly I can't think of a situation in which I'd wear it. Now that the Blancpain is out, I don't know if I should get the Sun while I still can....eventually Swatch will simply discontinue them.

>>17818557
Agreed. You ask what I do for work? As I said years ago...I solve problems, and people pay me to do it. Some intrepid poster assumed I was tech support...lol Bless them...my work is more specific, and far more costly. Nevertheless, it makes me happy, and my clients happy, so everyone wins.

>>17818563
I have gold, but it doesn't do anything. Buffet is quite right in all that. Unlike land, or businesses, gold is dead. I never had a gold-gold watch on my list.

Nice...is it real?

>>17561098
Because the Explorer is technically better as long as it's not a 32xx movement. Avoid those like the plague.

>>17561117
Done. See pic.

>>17561125
Agreed. I think the vintage Tudors look much better than the modern ones, but that's because the dial proportions are superior. Modern Tudors are bereft of educated designers.

>>17561130
Looks great! Doesn't side-ways shooting cause jamming in autos?

>>17561131
I was thinking something like a Panerai Tuttonero...

>>17561133
Yes, I use my quartz Nighthawk when I'm at the range.

>>17561138
It's a great watch, by all accounts. Wear it in good health!

>>17561141
Seagull is fun. I have one too. Yours looks to be the Sapphire Crystal variant...is it running well?

>>17561148
I think they're ugly as shit, but I can't fault Mark for his enthusiasm and direction of intent. You can't have it all at that pricepoint.

>>17561176
I wear two watches to work...

>>17561189
Present and well inebriated, for the first time in a long time....

>>17561191
Why would you hold your thumb against it like that? Wouldn't it get shaven quick when it was fired?

That's Brosnan tier.

They will, depending on your social group as well as what watch you actually wear.

They are available, but you really have to do your research. The same guys who did 'Moonwatch Only' also published a free separate PDF on the Holy Grail '(Holy Grail Only', I think it's called), so once you have gone through that, you can sort through all of the watches listed. Depending on the season, it's easy/difficult to find one that actually has all the right components based on the serial number. Once you get one, make sure you have a trusted watchmaker handy to open it up and confirm everything.

Parts can be a problem if anything goes seriously wrong; although you could get donor parts from the other 5100s, so it's not completely impossible.

If you want the central minutes for the chronograph, the Damaskos I think use them, and maybe Sinn too...I honestly can't remember. They're not true Lemania 5100s though; they use a modified Valjoux 7750. Still, central minutes is really easy to read. Good luck on the hunt.
