Seems like they are no longer going to offer Longines so theyre just getting rid of them. If i hadnt just spent $7200 on this speedy it would be a no brainer but i havent even gotten the bracelet for this guy yet. Would be nice to have a nicer diver, the ones i have are just cheap beaters.

I wasn't such a fan of the white dial speedmaster at first but it is growing on me. I just don't really like the speedmaster much, I don't like the weight or feel of it, nor the fact there's no date window, and I don't like omega's refusal to change or update anything about it, they are clutching at the past and "muh moonwatch" way too much. He doesn't actually think that, he NEEDS to think that [that's the case].
Think about it this way. You've been posting on /wt/ for many years, you've established a social circlejerk of people that, while not necessarily friends, you've come to know each other through your watches, the way they write out their thoughts etc. All is good in your hugbox.
And then a guy (me) with seikos show up, and completely runs the show. He's rich-er than you, he has touched a woman, or even worse, he actually has sex with them. He makes them pose with his Daily watches, but to you, said saily watches are your grail.
While you contemplate for years back and forth to buy a 900$ watch, he went and bought 2 watches worth more than your car, within 2 weeks.
He goes on vacation to Japan, he comes back, liked it so much there so he decides to permanently move there. Quits his job (in todays economy), and just goes and does it. Others need 5 years of meticulous calculations to move three blocks down, but he? He did it on a wimp.
In Japan, he does everything you wanted to do.
>"Maybe one day I will visit...!"
(For 10 days).
He got a girlfriend, moved in together- everything is going well.
Everytime he posts, the thread gets derailed and I don't even do anything besides posting my watches, and these pictures are sometimes accompanied with a female in them. It's enough to make you lose your shit because--
So what do you do? You make up stories.
It started with:
>Not even his watches
To
>he's bald
To
>he's fat
To
>he's a sex trafficker
To
>The police are chasing him
Etc. After posting his face/body, basically doxxing himself, all that suddenly changed.
>"Well okay he's not bald or fat, BUT he still needs to pay for sex!"
And now we are at
>"Paris syndrome will hit him soon"
Completely ignoring the number one factor as of why the Paris syndrome is a thing and that these "Factors" don't exist in Japan.
>Tl;dr
You NEED to make up headcanons or else HOW are you supposed to cope?

I think people just really got it in their heads that this was going to be the year that Rolex brought it back. Rolex hype and watch "journalism" is strange like that. Honestly don't know. Ive never really tested it, but it has kept time consitently over multiple days so theres that. It's also from 1966 so I don't expect much. It needs to be serviced again. Something in the automatic is loose after I was wearing it during some hard activities. It like gets stuck randomly so the watch won't wind. Otherwise ir still works great. Last time I took it to get services the old Japanese guy at the place got really excited about it. Something about it being rare because the movement inside is colored gold and Seiko stopped doing that in the 60s. I'm going to take it back to the same place, I hope the guy still works there. It was last serviced like 5 years ago so.....

I doubt you'll be able to find a sapphire crystal for it, it's a pretty unique shape and it would cost a fortune to get one custom made. They replaced the crystal on mine when i last got it serviced for free and it's acrylic anyway, so the thing buffs out by itself basically through normal wear, you can also polish it yourself with a cloth and some Polywatch. Same.

For myself, I'd prefer a high end independent like a Moser, Journe, DeBethune, etc.
I wouldn't say I have a grail, though. I don't subscribe to the idea of a grail or end-game watch or anything like that. It just feels like trying to attach some emotional significance to a purchase in order to justify the expenditure.

Paris Syndrome is a term for tourist disillusionment; when a visitor to a given place has spent considerable time putting that place up on a pedestal, they can quickly get disappointed to the point where psychiatric symptoms like anxiety, depression, and feelings of persecution can manifest.

The term was originally coined in the 1980s to describe how disappointed a some Japanese tourists are when they visit Paris, since Paris is very idealized in Japanese pop culture.
Nowadays it is more broadly used to describe being disappointed by any tourist destination that has been idealized.

A child visiting Disney World can be disappointed by the long lines, for example.
A person visiting Las Vegas, imaging it to be glamorous like in "Ocean's 11" is disappointed to find it's tacky and grimy.
A weeb visiting Japan discovers that catgirls aren't real and being into anime as an adult makes you just as much of a social outcast there as back home.

Anon is trying to take cope by saying that Paris Syndrome can ONLY happen to tourists in Paris.

>is it me or is 38mm the perfect size? im tired of big watches

I think every watch design has a size that it works best at and trying to grow or shrink it typically spoils it.
Some watches are just meant to be big and some are meant to be small. Panerais look strange when they're scaled-down. The Speedmaster Pro is meant to be 42mm. The Explorer and Datejust look awful in when they're bigger than 36mm.

What I do appreciate is that more men are becoming more realistic about the sizes of watches that actually fit their wrist and are buying smaller watches as a result. (Which, in turn has more watchmakers putting out smaller models)

I think the biggest factor in converting people over to smaller watches is just convincing someone who wears big watches to just try a nice small OP style watch daily for a week or two to get used to it and start to appreciate how much lighter and more comfortable smaller watches are. Certain watches are better at certain sizes, sure, but I think just saying that leads a lot of people to come to a conclusion of "well, I wear 42mm watches so I guess I just can't wear a 36mm datejust then because that's not my size." just looking at numbers on a spreadsheet and not giving them a real college try is how you get set in the "men's size/women's size" mindset.

You're exactly right. I wore a 43mm Breitling for years, having convinced myself that it fit. (It did not.)
Then I got a chance to try a 38mm Blancpain Bathyscaphe back to back with the 43mm version (I wanted to see how the gray looked and they only had a blue one in 43mm) and I bought the 38mm on the spot.
It was like a light flipped on. It was so much lighter and thinner. It looked so much more proportional to my wrist. (6.75")

Wearing a pocket watch is a nostalgic and stylish way to connect with the past while also making a statement about one's individuality. Firstly, a pocket watch is a tangible representation of a bygone era, evoking the elegance and sophistication of a time long past. It's a conversation starter, inviting people to ask about its history and significance, which can lead to meaningful connections and shared stories. Secondly, a pocket watch is a personal accessory that can be tailored to an individual's unique style and personality, whether it's a classic leather-bound case or a modern, avant-garde design. It's a way to express one's personality and add a touch of whimsy to their daily attire, making them stand out in a crowd while still being respectful of tradition.
