yeah he's an incredible musician, and reading his writings you can see how he developed such an unusual sound. i read his essay "creep" where he essentially says that the traits necessary to create meaningful, significant art (a naive, childlike curiosity and affect and disconnection from the social world) are the very traits that women, who he saw as categorically oversocialized, find least appealing in men. this is where the term "creep," which he uses interchangeably with involuntary celibate, comes from. that women found him "creepy." his experience had been that coexisting with women, as well as with most men, requires one to conceal or suspend the activities he thought had the most intellectual and artistic merit, which is to say the ones that aren't already socially approved of. he even says that involuntary celibates should seek out surgical castration so they don't experience a conflict between any latent desire for sex/romance and unfettered pursuit of their personal/artistic/intellectual projects. interesting stuff. it makes perfect sense that a guy who valued idiosyncrasy so much and so rejected the enforcement of social norms in art would end up making such strange, abstract, fascinating music
