>As it turns out...Terra wasn't the only one with a magic Slave Crown device (remember those?). Kefka once briefly had a Slave Crown of his own at Cid's recommendation, removed by Gestahl since it significantly decreased his efficiency. Slave Crowns have a secondary function - they are set to activate remotely as Gestahl's dead-man switch. The reason Celes doesn't have a remote Slave Crown is because she never wore one physically, which is how it "syncs" with its wearer - when she was set to be "executed" in Figaro, she was really about to be stripped of her freedom via Slave Crown. Meanwhile, Terra's Slave Crown was destroyed by Arvis before it can be recovered, so it's no threat.
>Kefka can sense his Slave Crown but can't find it, and with it looming over his head he can't continue his rampage for the time being.
>The rest of the game might play similarly, just with no second world map and big dialog changes.
>Terra? Not in Mobliz (though maybe Phunbaba can be fought there at first). She's actually with the Thamasans, who safely evacuated town before the Floating Continent fell and relocated in Ebot's Rock. She feels at home among magic-users.
>Maybe magic doesn't totally vanish in the ending? Just Espers; Thamasans are effectively new Espers, and their existence may be known about. Perhaps they assimilate after the fall of Kefka, or they seal themselves away like Espers did. Either way, Terra stays with them, maybe becomes like Relm's mother or sister figure. If Locke is not recruited, may also be how Celes' story ends.
>This is in the scenario where the game structure might not have been too radically different, where linearity opens up after the Falcon and you re-recruit party. Another way to go about it may be to give Vector a way bigger climax between Thamasa and Floating Continent to more or less wrap up Empire, perhaps kill off Gestahl there, maybe merge the Floating Continent and Kefka Tower scenarios? Monsters/Progression need heavier reworking

Have you SEEN the pixel remasters? Square Enix is done doing major fixes to their old translations. FFIII has a new script because it wasn't done in 2D officially yet, that's it. FFIV reverted back to the crummy GBA script virtually verbatim after the PSP one basically fixed everything. SNES/GBA kiddies are boomers now with kids of their own, they don't want to think hard on their media, give mommy and daddy their soft nostalgia for the 90's/00's baby inside them.

The GBA script port seems like a good option if you don't mind unnecessary 'gameplay fixes' with no way to turn them off: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5864/
Literally, throughout Tom Slattery's entire career, you can count the number of screw-ups on one hand (and half or most of those are Chrono Trigger), as opposed to anything touched by Ted Woolsey where you can compile giant lists on each game.
