I've always been interested in the Turbografx and would like to play its shmups and more. What's the best hardware option at this point? I was thinking I'd get a TurboDuo with an Everdrive for HuCard games and burn CD-Rs for Duo. Or is there a better alternative?

Supergrafx with Turbo Everdrive Pro.

Does the TurboDuo have the various system cards built in? If not I'd go with a PCE+Everdrive pro or the Terraonion thing like the other anons said

Not OP but I might as well ask while there's a PC-Engine thread up. What's the best way to emulate this thing. I only ever played that Rondo of Blood standaline executable and would like to explore more of the system.

In 2024 your most accessible option is probably the PC Engine Mini, its got an emulator by probably the best emulator dev in the business, M2, and can easily be hacked.

Those things are more expensive than the real console.

What is the advantage of the CoreGrafx vs. the original PC Engine besides the composite output? And why use a PC Engine vs an American TurboDuo?
>>10907310
Is there an actual reason to use a Supergrafx, or are you joshin' me?
>>10907318
From what I have read, the American TurboDuo has both the base CD-ROM and the Super CD-ROM system cards, and needs the special Arcade card to play Arcade CD-ROM games (like all PC Engine and Turbografx models).

You can play 5 more games, including the most accurate port of daimakaimura.

Remember the games are built in though (expensive and important ones like Rondo), plus it will give OP a nice selection of both HuCard and CD titles to choose from without even having to add more like anon suggested

The hack hasn't been released to the general public yet.

If you’re going the everdrive route might as well go coregrafx + ever drive + edfx attachment, you’ll be able to play cd games loaded on the ever drive and output the cd audio in stereo with the edfx plus it has rgb out. The pc engine is awesome and under appreciated, you won’t be disappointed by it.

It’s old now so I imagine there’s a better alternative but I still use the emulator Ootake. Very straightforward for playing hu cards but If you’re playing the cd games you will need daemontools (or a similar program) to mount the iso files which is easy but it’s an extra step

Ootake for that sweet engrish message.
You'll need a system card file to play CD games.

Mednafen, or its Retroarch equivalent Beetle-PCE. Much easier for CD games, don't have to mount any ISOs. The Rondo standalone uses it.

I went with a PC Engine with Zaxour's recent Turbonanza mod for RGB/S-Video support with Saturn cables and a Turbo Everdrive. Smallest imprint, CD support, only downside is no Supergrafx games which is.. whatever
