How does /vr/ feel about completionism / achievment hunting?

Not retro

There are plenty of retro ports with achievements anon.

The NES version of Pac-Man CE has achievements, and you can play that on real hardware.

life is too short for that

to what gen? anon is right, achievements are not really retro subject, plus insanely retarded, vidya is supposed to be fun, a challenge to beat a game at most, not a frigging payless chore.

Mostly indifferent because achievements either are
>Too easy, intended playthroughs unlock them
>Too hard, autistic and tedious shit unlock them
But on the rare occasion a game gets them right, like REmake 1 HD that basically just asks you to beat the game multiple times on all the modes it has, getting multiple endings with both Jill and Chris, and getting a good enough final time.
RetroAchievements are gay.

I 100% games before cheevos were a thing, so I like em. The ones that force you to play dead multiplayer modes are shit.

>> No.10907948

been hooked on retroachievements for almost a year now. It's been fun, and now that they updated the site to include progression tracking I can essentially use it as a backloggery.
I started interacting with the community and sometimes I see a few people posting in greentext format, I'm not sure if they're from here or if the act of greentexting has entered the normalfag zeitgeist.

My only problem is that achievemnts are being established by the third party.

That's fucking dumb I hated that shit so much I stopped buying consoles. Back in the day getting completions got you bonus levels, bonus modes, or even a stupid costume or palate swap or character or whatever, FMV's even. Then achievements come out, and ruin everything so now all you get is a shitty jpg that doesn't mean jack shit.

I just see it as a checklist of what stuff there is to do in a game, personally.

I always hated this addition to modern vidya. It just seems superficial and autistic. IDK how normalfags ate it up.

>> No.10908772

Possibly the stupidest thing in the world, and not just video games. There might not be anything stupider even conceptually. It breaks reality-stupid.

>> No.10908782

Depends entirely on how good the list is. Modern trophies/achievements are babby-tier, but most RetroAchievements are autismo tier

>cheevos
put em on your resume cunt

I love RA much for the same reasons. I'm very autistic about tracking what games I've completed and when, and RA allows me to do that for non-Steam games. I also like the "Want to Play" feature.

>> No.10909618

I genuinely don't understand rhe appeal of treating games like they're a job.

The best thing about them isn't having them, it's showing everyone on xbox live that I do.

>> No.10909718

Medals on your account for achievements are stupid, like on Steam.

Just experiencing the game and finding stuff on your own is the real achievement.

>replay a game with achievements
>get some secret stuff as I usually do
>achievement unlocked
>my life continues as usual
