If, like a lot of people, you don't like the controls, I'd encourage you to give Nexus a shot. It was the first game in the series with the more modern, dual analog scheme. And if you only see yourself wanting to play 1 of the 1st gen games, definitely make it Master of Arena.

I agree. That's why I didn't say "here's a patch which makes the game work in a way it fundamentally wasn't balanced around". I said "give Nexus a shot", which was balanced with dual analog controls in mind, since the game supports it out of the box.

Big fan of Cybernator / Assault Suits Valken, that was my gateway to mech games. All the Assault Suits titles in the franchise are worth checking out, as well as Front Mission Gun Hazard (developed by the Assault Suits Valken team)

You don't even need to remap. You just need to struggle through the initial disconnect of your brain trying to play it like every other third person game and once you get used to the controls they kinda just work.
